10th Amendment Question

The Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The purpose of the Tenth Amendment is to make it clear that the powers not delegated to the federal government in the U.S. Constitution are reserved to the states and to the citizens of the United States.

Why do you think it was important to the drafters of the Bill of Rights that these powers be reserved to the states and to the people?
